Wolmyeong Park began in 1906 as Gakguk Park, covering 9,907 pyeong
Wolmyeong Park began in 1906, when 9,907 pyeong near Haemang Pavilion was named the 'Park of All Nations.' At the time, Haemang Pavilion was a scenic spot of Gunsan's international settlement. After the 1910 Japan–Korea annexation, the law on the international concession was abolished, so 'All Nations' was dropped and it became Gunsan Park. It has used its current name, Wolmyeong Park, since 1972.
The 1972 designation set Wolmyeong Park's boundaries, after a 6,088-pyeong expansion in 1933
The name Wolmyeong Park came in 1972. That year, a wide area from Susi Tower in Haemang-dong to the hill behind Kunsan National University in Miryong-dong was designated a park zone within a development restriction area. The designation came because the mountain's trees had been cut down recklessly after liberation and through the Korean War. Earlier, in 1933, when trade with Japan made Gunsan's economy boom, 6,088 pyeong of land on the hill where Susi Tower now stands was bought to expand the park (then Gunsan Park).
